The Rumtek Monastery, also known as the Dharma Chakra Center, is a gompa located in the Indian state of Sikkim, nearly 24 km to the capital city Gangtok. This deportation is a set of deportations by Karmapa, which was inaugurated in 1966 by the 16th Karmapa. It is also a central point for sectarian tensions within the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, which is characteristic of the 17th krmpa conflict.
