Kalimpong is an east Indian hill town in the Himalayan foothills of West Bengal. Kalimpong is situated at an altitude of 1,200 mtrs, approx 50 kms to the east of Darjeeling. The word Kalimpong made = (Kalim + Pong ) = Kalim means King’s Minister and Pong is the stronghold. It is also called Kalibong or the ‘black spur’ by the local people. Kalibong in the local dialect stands for Kaulim, a fiber plant used for making paper and paper goods.
Kalimpong was earlier a subdivision of Darjeeling district, but now a separate district of West Bengal effective 14th Feb 2017 with an area of 1,056 square kilometers and inhabiting 49,403 people (as per 2011 census). Kalimpong town itself is small, located about 2.5 hours drive from both Darjeeling and Siliguri.

• By Road:- From NJP the distance to Kalimpong is about 65 kms by road via Teesta Bazaar and takes about 2.5 hours to reach by National Highway NH31A to Kalimpong town.
